Matildas of Ranelagh is a gracious Victorian home that dates back to 1860. The house, adjoining Oast house and gardens are listed with the National Trust. Situated among farmland and orchards with Mountain River at the lower boundary, this 5 1/2 acres of parkland and gardens exists as a world unto itself.

Matildas has been home to several generations of the same family and is considered one of the most important buildings in the Huon Valley. In 1970, the house was host to the Queen when she took tea in what is now the Matilda Suite. Matildas is decorated with antiques and collectables reflective of the era in which the house was built and all restoration has remained faithful to that period. Concessions to modern living include central heating and air conditioning and underfloor heating in all bathrooms.

The Guest rooms include luxury spa suites, as well as Queen and twin accommodation. All rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. Port and handmade chocolates are provided in all rooms, and a full cooked breakfast is included in the tarrif. We are situated in an idyllic spot in the very heart of the Huon Valley, close to all that this diverse region has to offer.

Matildas is a warm and welcoming family home as well as a luxury guest house, and has gained a reputation for being one of Tasmania's friendliest places to stay. We are half an hour from Hobart, 2km from Huonville and at least 100 years from the rest of the world.

How to get there:

MATILDA'S of RANELAGH is only a 30 minute drive south of Hobart on the A-6 via Huonville (turn right at the roundabout).
The village of Ranelagh is 2kms from Huonville in the Heart of the magnificent Huon Valley.
